Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 20 August 2026
1. Who we are
This website, legalwear.com.au, is operated by:
Regalia Craft Pty Ltd ABN 97 008 697 603 trading as Legal Wear 240 Beaufort Street, Perth WA 6000 Phone: (08) 9328 4194 Email: info@regaliacraft.com.au
In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Regalia Craft Pty Ltd. “You” means the person placing an order or using this website.
We have been manufacturing and supplying regalia in Perth since 1965.
2. What these terms cover
These terms apply every time you buy from us through this website. By placing an order you are agreeing to them.
Please read them before you order. If there is anything you are not sure about, call or email us before you buy. We would rather answer a question first than sort out a misunderstanding later.
Two other documents sit alongside these terms and form part of them:
- our Shipping and Delivery Policy
- our Refunds, Returns and Cancellation Policy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal information.
3. What we sell
We manufacture and supply:
- Gowns for barristers, magistrates, King’s Counsel and judges
- Barristers’ wigs, bench wigs and full bottom wigs
- Bar jackets, jabots, neckbands and Court Assistant’s clothing
- Bags, wig cases, cuff links and related accessories
- Made-to-order and special-manufacture items
Most of our garments are made in our own factory in Perth.
4. Items for sale and items for hire
Some of our items are sold to you. Some are hired to you for a period and must be returned.
Where an item is for hire, this is shown clearly on the product page. Everything else is a sale. Hire items have extra terms, set out in section 12.
5. Prices, GST and currency
- All prices are in Australian dollars (AUD).
- All prices include GST. We are registered for GST.
- Prices shown do not include delivery. Delivery is shown at checkout before you pay and is covered in our Shipping and Delivery Policy.
- We can change our prices at any time, but a change will never affect an order we have already accepted.
If we quote you a price for a special-manufacture item, that quote is valid for 30 days.
If a price is wrong
We try hard to keep prices accurate, but mistakes happen. If we find that an item you have ordered was listed at the wrong price, we will contact you before we do anything else. You can then choose to go ahead at the correct price or cancel and get a full refund. We will not simply charge you the higher amount.
6. Placing an order
When you place an order you are making an offer to buy from us. We are not obliged to accept it.
Your order is accepted when we confirm it with you by email or phone, not when the automatic website receipt arrives. This gives us the chance to check sizing and availability first, which on made-to-measure garments saves everyone trouble later.
We may decline an order if:
- the item is out of stock or we can no longer make it
- we cannot verify your payment or delivery details
- the item was listed at the wrong price
- we cannot deliver to your address
- we reasonably believe the order is fraudulent
If we decline your order after you have paid, we refund you in full.
7. Payment
Payment is by credit or debit card through our website, and the full amount, including any made-to-order item, is payable when you place your order.
If you are a set of chambers, a court or another institutional customer and need a different arrangement, please contact us before ordering.
8. Sizing, measurements and fittings
Many of our garments are sized or cut to measurements you give us. Our gowns, for example, are sized by height, and some items also need a chest measurement. Jabots are sized by neck measurement.
Please take your measurements carefully, or come in and let us do it. You are welcome to visit us during opening hours for help with sizing. It is a good idea to call first so we know to expect you. There is no charge.
If a garment is made or supplied to the measurements you gave us and those measurements turn out to be wrong, that is not a fault in the garment. What we can do about it is set out in our Refunds, Returns and Cancellation Policy.
We can often alter a garment rather than replace it. Alterations are quoted individually depending on the work involved.
9. Made-to-order items
Some of what we sell is made specifically for you. That includes garments made to your measurements and any special-manufacture work such as chancellery robes, honorary doctorate robes and court usher uniforms.
Because these items are made for you, they cannot be resold to anyone else. Different cancellation and return rules apply, and those are in our Refunds, Returns and Cancellation Policy.
We will tell you before you commit whether an item is made to order and how long it will take.
10. Delivery and collection
How we get your order to you, what it costs and how long it takes are all in our Shipping and Delivery Policy. Please read it, as it forms part of these terms.
11. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law. If anything in these terms conflicts with those rights, your rights under the law win.
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
These rights sit on top of anything else we offer you. Any returns or refunds we offer as a matter of goodwill are in addition to these rights, not instead of them.
Your rights to cancel, return an item or get a refund are set out in our Refunds, Returns and Cancellation Policy, which forms part of these terms.
12. Extra terms for hire items
These terms apply only to items you hire from us.
- The item stays ours. You are borrowing it. Ownership does not pass to you at any point.
- The hire period. Please return the item within five days of your hire date, unless we have agreed something different with you in writing.
- Looking after it. Please take reasonable care of the item and return it in the condition you received it, allowing for normal use.
- Damage. Normal marks and creasing from ordinary use are expected and we will not charge you for them. If an item comes back damaged or stained beyond ordinary cleaning, we may charge you the reasonable cost of cleaning or repair. We would only charge the full replacement cost if the item cannot be repaired.
- Not returned. If the item is not returned within five days and you have not contacted us, we may charge you its replacement cost, less any hire fee you have already paid. If you know you are going to be late, call us and we will sort something out.
- Late return. We do not charge a late fee for an item returned in good condition, provided you have let us know.
- No bond. We do not take a security bond or deposit on hire items.
- Sub-hire. Please do not lend, hire out or pass the item on to anyone else without asking us first.
- Cancelling a hire. See our Refunds, Returns and Cancellation Policy.
13. Using this website
You may use this website to browse and to buy from us. Please do not:
- use it in a way that breaks the law
- try to interfere with it or gain access to parts of it that are not public
- copy our photographs, designs, product descriptions or logos for your own commercial use
The content on this website, including our images, text and branding, belongs to us or to the people we licence it from.
We try to keep the website accurate and available, but we cannot promise it will always be error-free or online. Product photographs are as accurate as we can make them, though colours can look different on different screens.
14. Things outside our control
Sometimes things happen that we cannot control, such as a natural disaster, an industrial dispute, a courier failure, a power or network outage, or a supplier being unable to deliver materials.
If something like that stops us delivering on time, we will let you know as soon as we can and work out the best way forward with you. That might mean a later delivery date, or cancelling the order and refunding you.
This does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
15. Our responsibility to you
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill.
We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for business losses such as lost profits or lost opportunity.
Nothing in this section limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, and nothing in this section applies where the law does not allow us to limit our responsibility.
16. Your personal information
We collect and use your personal information in line with our Privacy Policy and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We use it to process your order, arrange delivery, and stay in touch with you about your order.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your order is the version on the website at the time you placed it. The date at the top shows when we last changed them.
18. Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia, and you and we both submit to the courts of that state.
19. If something goes wrong
Please talk to us first. Most problems are quickest to fix with a phone call.
